Rick Gallant is an Ottawa native and relatively new to the art scene. With no formal training and ambitious intentions, his formative years as an aspiring artist favoured pencil and pen and ink drawings. He was apprehensive about painting in colour until his foray into acrylic painting.
Today Rick paints professionally and continues to sell his work. His style leans towards landscapes and wildlife but has intentions of trying new subjects.
– My passion for art comes from an innate desire to capture the boundless beauty of nature that surrounds us.
With the effects of global warming and natural disasters, my planet is rapidly changing. For this reason, I seek to capture breathtaking images from every corner of the globe. Beauty can be found everywhere, from my own backyard to the other side of the world. Every region has its own unique plant life, climate and geographical landscapes that continue to inspire me.
My style is realism. I paint using acrylics and create depth by building layers. The colours I choose are true to the scene and I capture realism through shapes and details. To add more passion and dimension to my work, I use washes that allow the underlying layers to come through.
Many of us take the splendour of our world for granted. I believe that it can be ours forever.
My wish is to increase people’s appreciation of the incredibly beautiful world we live in.
